Since 1996, the work of the Purbeck Film Festival in Dorset has grown year on year, in terms of venues and audience numbers, and continues to go from strength to strength. As well as our Autumn Festival, they host outdoor screenings across the summer – Cinema Under the Stars – at iconic Purbeck locations like Corfe Castle and the Blue Pool.
The annual festival brings a diverse range of cinema to rural areas, with the latest international arthouse cinema as well as much-loved classics showing in a range of venues from local cinemas to village halls.
On the 29th of October 2024 the film, Frances Hodgkins, Anything But A Still Life, was screened at Durlston Castle. The film was accompanied by a recorded introduction by director Blandine Massiet du Biest.
The highly acclaimed documentary will now be available to watch on Air New Zealand flights from January to April 2025.
Frances Hodgkins, Anything but a Still Life is a documentary film about the life and work of New Zealand painter Frances Hodgkins. The film explores Hodgkins' challenges and perseverance, and her legacy as a role model for women in the arts.
